Below we have suggested the wording as a guide, but it’s totally up to you what you want to put on your invitations.
Usually invitations are sent from the hosts of the wedding – traditionally the brides parents.
Our preferred method of receiving wording and information is by email (and this is the only method we accept for order of service cards and guest information cards), alternatively you can fill in our order form with the invitation wording.
Traditional wording for wedding invitations - to Church and reception venue
Mr and Mrs J. Glover request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating the marriage of their daughter Isabelle to James David Spencer at Norcliffe Chapel, Styal, Wilmslow on Saturday 14th August 2009 at 1pm, and
afterwards at the Dean Water Hotel, Woodford. RSVP by 14th July 2009. Reply address should be added if you are not
including a Reply Card, and if required, a dress code or what time the guests are expected to leave the venue (carriages at midnight) and if necessary information on whether children are invited or not.
Informal wording for wedding invitations - to Church and reception venue
Same as traditional wording but starts Mr and Mrs J. Glover are delighted to invite (guest’s name).
Wording for wedding invitations - Ceremony and reception at same venue
Mr and Mrs J. Glover request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating the marriage of their daughter Isabelle to James David Spencer at Capesthorne Hall, Macclesfield on Saturday 14th August 2009 at 1pm. Dining and dancing to follow at the same venue.
Alternative wedding invitation wording
The wording may change according to who hosts the wedding:
If the bride and groom are hosts: Isabelle Glover and James David Spencer request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating their marriage...
If both sets of parents are hosts: Mr and Mrs J. Glover and Mr and Mrs P. Spencer request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating the marriage of Isabelle Glover to James David Spencer...
The couple and both sets of parents: Mr and Mrs J.Glover and their daughter Isabelle together with Mr and Mrs P. Spencer and their son James David request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating their marriage of Isabelle Glover to James David Spencer...
If the parents are divorced and co-hosting: Mr J. Glover and Mrs Brown request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating the marriage of their daughter Isabelle to James David Spencer...
Wording for evening invitations
Mr and Mrs J. Glover request the pleasure of the company of (guest’s name) to join them in celebrating the marriage of their daughter Isabelle to James David Spencer at an evening reception held at the Deanwater Hotel, Woodford on Saturday 14th August 2009 from 7pm. (Evening Invitations should have the reply address and remember to add Black tie if there is a dress code)
Guest Information cards
Directions can usually be provided by the reception venue via email or from their website. They can also usually provide a list of local hotels and taxi numbers.
Order of Service/Order of the day
Entrance music, hymns, prayers, etc can usually be provided from the Church you are getting married in and must always check it with the clergy before ordering. If you are having a civil ceremony, your local Town Hall can usually provide you with a choice of ceremony alternatives and readings. Due to the amount of text in your Order of Service we must receive this in a typed format on CD or email.

Our stationery has been lovingly designed and the fonts used on the invitations shown we think are the best to suit that particular design. We know all too well though that tastes are all subjective and if you’d prefer something different used on your invitation then we can customise your design with any of our recommended fonts styles shown below.
